LPGA Corning Classic to end

One of the more venerable and picturesque stops on the LPGA Tour is being discontinued after this season, a victim of the economy.

The final Corning Classic will take place in May. Organizers are reporting losses of more than $500,000 in sponsorship revenue.


Sports industry leaders freaking out

At the IMG World Congress of Sports in Miami, the priciest suits in the business of sports are sounding a lot like Chicken Little, especially Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank:

“It’s so difficult out there. They just took the double cheeseburger off the Dollar Menu at McDonald’s. That’ll give you a sense of what the economy is like.”
