Couldn't agree more. Who wouldn't want to go to a hockey game in June? it's hot in the South during the playoffs, i'd go for relief too (if the local team was miraculously in the postseason) I smell and exodus of "trimming" the fat in the coming years.

Wendy, it's a blog. I gave my opinion about what was going to happen and why it was going to happen. It seemed pretty complete to me.

Thanks for responding Darren, but I meant no shot and it wasn't ridiculous. I would have liked to have seen a little more reporting on a topic that I think is a very topical and timely one, that's all.

Wendy,

This is a ridiculous shot at me. If my stuff is "typically thin" why don't you pull me down from your blogroll since I obviously provide little value to your readers.

Refresh my memory: Does a blog have to have a quote in order to be good?

I'm glad to hear that Goodell did this... I made a post about this a few weeks back. I'm curious to know what all the excess money is going towards.

Hopefully not more Bruce.

Bud Selig is doing a good thing here, by trying to take the topic of conversation *away* from steroids.

However, he has to address it and solve the issue first. Otherwise, everyone will view him as "the commish that turned a blind eye".

Hi Wendy,
I'm Molly aka, mdbirdlover. I apologize if I was short in that reply but I wasn't sure if this site was a collection of links and some opinion to draw traffic to the big dogs of sports, as if they need it.
I'm sorry but am I going blind? I do not see the ABOUT page.

Anyway about your point on sports writers, very well taken. A lot of them thrived and made their names and careers during those "glory days" and turned the other cheek.
Playing devil's advocate here, maybe they feel betrayed?
For Whatever this is worth, I do not fall in this sports writing category, I started in sports a few years back. 05. How about you?

Also, and this is not an excuse, the national past-time desperately needed CPR after the labor disputes; Cal Ripken breaking Gehrig's record sort of set the standard. Baseball is so much about it's number and its rich history. This helped ignite it and in my opinion, accentuate the McGuire/Sosa thing. It got everyone all mushy! But nobody could have gotten mushy without the media...so you are very right.

I don't know, I could write forever about this.
I am a sucker for bseball.
And this is such an arguable topic.
The media is most definitely complicit...

The Olympics have always been a litmus test for keeping sports clean, would you agree?

I think the rhapsodic feeling many sportswriters (my profession) and others have for baseball is clouding their perspective on steroids.

We get worked up when Olympic athletes and cyclists test positive for steroids, but that's nothing like the caterwauling over baseball. It's a sacrosanct thing, that baseball, and the zeal for purity is foolish and sentimental.

I wish athletes wouldn't use steroids, but we need to get over this and understand that our thirst to see greater sports accomplishments is a factor.

For too long we look the other way or don't want to believe baseball players were pumping up. When Sosa and McGwire were in that great homerun chase, this was the case. Ditto for Clemens, Bonds and now A-Rod. Once the truth about them comes out, we lash out. But not until then.

I do have an About page, in the top middle of the site, and you can find my e-mail address there.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Good point about juicing and football. Clearly you have your eyes one the sports media, what is the word on the street?

Completely disagree with you on the "foolish" and sentimental part of baseball being the problem behind steroids. Are you serious?
Its' all about money, money, money?

Wish you had an about page so I could address you personally.
